Social Media Ads: Worth The Risk?

January 18, 20236 min read

If you're a small business owner, and you're not already running Facebook(TM) or Instagram(TM) ads, you're probably in one of three categories:

  1. Not sure how to get started - we're going to talk about how to get started below, including some incredible services we offer. I'll share with you why social media ads are a great investment to make and whether it's worth it for your small business.

  2. You can't afford it yet - a lot of new business owners fall into this category. I'll show you where you can find my free resources to prepare to launch your first campaign. We'll also give you a better idea of when to invest in ads.

  3. You simply aren't a good fit - there few businesses that fall into this category. We'll talk about those below. Chances are, you are a perfect fit.

Whether you're in category one, two or three, it's always a good idea to ask yourself:

Are Facebook(TM) and Instagram(TM) Ads WORTH THE RISK 👊

Why Facebook(TM) & Instagram(TM) Ads?

Facebook(TM) and Instagram(TM) ads are the fastest, most predictable way to scale business growth in 2023 and beyond. Hundreds of thousands of businesses are finding their success in the social media space every day, using paid ad campaigns.

Why are social media strategies superior to traditional ad campaigns?

  • There are billions of daily users on Facebook and Instagram every single day. This means that chances are, your audience uses it.

  • Unmatched targeting abilities that enable you to specify the kinds of people who sees your ad - so that you don't waste money on disinterested people. (You no longer have to sell your parenting class to people who don't have kids).

  • It requires no cost to produce, ship, print or install advertisements - so that your return on investment is much higher! Compared to more traditional advertising methods (mailers, booths, billboards), it is positively cheap!

This does NOT mean that there is no risk in running ads. In fact, any and all advertising investments involve risk.

This is not a get-rich-quick strategy, or an overnight fix. Ads require time, money & patience. And it is not for the lighthearted.

The question is... Is it WORTH the risk?

The serious business owners willing to stick around often find that it is!

What am I risking, by running ads?

To put it frankly, there is a significant upfront investment when running ads, without seeing immediate returns. Yet, you could say this of most advertisement mediums (billboard, banners, booths, mailers, etc). Businesses spend tens of thousands of dollars on a campaign only to wait for results to come in months later.

With Social Media Ad Campaigns, there are similar periods of development and testing. The results are typically faster (3 months vs 10-12 months). People also need to see your offer multiple times (15-50 exposures) before they purchase, which can take some time.

All of this means that there are no guarantees of immediate returns on your investment.

I typically ask clients to plan for 3 months of spending money on ads before they start seeing returns. Some clients spend up to $10,000 before earnings begin to catch up, only to find that within 6-9 months, they have a 150, 200 or 400+% return on ad spend.

There are no guarantees of any returns on your investment.

In some rare cases, a social media ad campaign will yield little or no returns, even when using best practices and the latest strategies. There are so many reasons why this may be, but here are some potential reasons: The offer is new or unproven, business or offer does not have enough social proof, challenges connecting with target audience, issues with Facebook and Instagram Ad software, etc.

This can feel very scary. Believe me, I get it! I've BEEN THERE!

But business owners who can push past the few months may see their funnels will optimized, and sales will compound...making it FAR worth* the investment.

Some might even say the bigger risk is in NOT running ads...

What am I risking by NOT running ads?

After the testing and optimization period, and the ad funnels is working as it should, that's when you start seeing the life-changing results.

Since every funnel is different, these successes may look different to each client.

Here are some results* my clients have seen recently:

  • Dozens of webinar attendees

  • Hundreds of new leads added to email list every week

  • 5-10 High Ticket Sales each month

  • 400X Return on Ad Spend

Just as it is important to know the risks of acting, it is just as important to know the risks of inaction. Facebook and Instagram ads are the fastest, most consistent way to scale your business success. When it works, it works incredibly well. Life-changingly-well!

Am I a good candidate?

I specialize in content creators and coaches. The questions below relate specifically to those types of businesses.

You're a good candidate for Facebook ads if:

  • You have good work ethic & are serious about growth

  • You are willing and able to invest for 3 consecutive months

  • You are able to implement feedback to your funnel, website, emails, social media, etc.

  • You have an offer worth $500-$3000+

You're NOT a good candidate for Facebook ads if:

  • You sell products or services that are banned or prohibited on Facebook or Instagram (for example, CBD products or MLM companies)

  • You do not have seed money for the initial ad management fees and ad spend for 2-3 months
